EDUCATIONAL STIPENDS

In case of stipends up to the level of Madhyamik, willing students are required to contact the local centre Secretaries for the procedure to follow and in case of Higher Studies stipends, students are advised to contact the General Secretary at the Main Centre. During the year 2011-12 three hundred fifty students up to the level of Madhyamik and one hundred more in Higher Studies have been granted educational stipends. All stipends are disbursed through local centers and main centre in due time.

LIBRARIES

Four libraries are running successfully in different areas under the supervision of local centres. Books under Educational syllabus along with all other types of books are made available in the libraries. Regular up gradation of books in list are done as demands arrive from the students end with direct financial help from the main centre. Presently following libraries are functioning-

  1. Aurobindo Rita Memorial Library at 445, Rabindra Sarani, Sobazar, Kolkata-70005. For this we are indebted to Jyotsna Daw & Jyotirmoy Daw. Well maintained by the Sovabazar Local Centre this library has a different Children Section enriched with all sorts of children books and magazines. It is open to all on every Sunday from 10am to 12 noon.
  2. Pathachakra, the oldest library run by the Society now functioning properly under Pataldanga Local Centre at 7A, Sitaram Ghosh Street Kolkata-700009, residence of Sri Ajit Paul & Srimati Bani Paul. The Society is indebted to them for the same. The library opens at 10am and continues up to 12 noon on every Sunday.
  3. Abhoyamoyee Chandra Memorial Library at 10A, Padmapukur East Lane, Kiddrerpore, Kolkata-700023, residence of Sri Sundari Mohan Chandra. This library is the most popular amongst the students. Times to time books are added in all section and various programmes are organized by Kidderpore Local Centre. This library too is open to all on every Sunday from 10 am to 12 noon.
  4. Kalikrishna Mitra Memorial Library, one of the oldest library in Bardhaman city is now functioning well under Bardhaman Local Centre. Enthused members organize various other programmes in the library like Vocational Training for Women, Computer Courses for all, Coaching Class, Drawing Class and a Health Centre. These made the library most popular in Bardhaman town. The library is open to all everyday from 8 am to 9 am and 6 pm to 8 pm. Vocational Training Classes are scheduled to take place on Wednessday & Friday from 3 pm to 5 pm. Health Centre facility is made available for all. It opens on Tuesday and Saturday from 3 pm to 5 pm.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING (TAILORING SCHOOL)

A Gandhabanik Education Society initiative the Rita Memorial Tailoring School was founded to train the women of the society who needs it to support their family. On many occasions, the handcrafted materials of this school gathered applaud for their intricacy. The school runs at 445 Rabindra Sarani Kolkata-5 under Sovabazar Local Centre. Arrangements are made to promote the trainees after successful completion of their courses. Exhibition cum Sale programmes are organised occasionally. Apart from this the Society provides sewing machines to the needy persons to earn for their own bread and butter.

HEALTH CENTRES

Two health centres are running well and serving the backward section of the society with medical treatment and medicines as per availability. One is functioning under Shibpur Local Centre at Kedarnath Pathsala Bhawan, Nabagopal Mukherjee Lane , Shibpur Howrah on every Thursday in the evening. Another is in Bardhaman District at Kalikrishna Mitra Memorial Library at Bardhaman town under Bardhaman Local Centre. It is meant for all section of the society and functions on every Tuesday & Saturday from 5pm to 7pm.

PUBLICATION

“Unmesh” a magazine for all section of the society, published on Annual Outing. Plans are there to publish it monthly. All sorts of articles are invited. Please contact your local centre Secretary to submit articles. Creative ideas and constructive opinions are invited for the betterment of this magazine.

Beside this a book namely”Gandhabanik Tatwa” on the history of Gandhabanik community has been republished.

Another book on “Maa Gandheswari” by Dr. Sandip Kumar Daw has been arranged to be circulated among the members.
